Few churches in Vienna carry a name as unusual as the Scots' church, and this engraving, titled *Area et templum Scotensium*, puts it at the center of the view. The church belonged to the Schottenstift, a Benedictine abbey founded in the twelfth century by monks of Irish and Scottish origin, and it stood beside the Freyung square. Salomon Kleiner drew the scene for his collection of churches and monasteries, and the plate was published in Augsburg around 1725. Its mix of church and city life gives a useful picture of the place in the 1720s.
