Two balloons fill much of the frame in this view of an exhibition hall, a reminder of how central aeronautics was to the fair's displays. The record dates the view to between 1887 and 1889, years when Paris was preparing for and hosting major international exhibitions, including the 1889 Exposition Universelle with the new Eiffel Tower. The print belongs to the Tissandier Collection, linked to the French aeronaut and writer Gaston Tissandier, who was deeply involved in balloon flight and its public presentation. The date comes from an old caption card, so it should be treated as provisional.
