Staged for a sitting president, this dance at the Pine Ridge Agency in South Dakota sets the stereograph apart from other views of Plains dancing. The performers were Sioux, and the Pine Ridge Reservation was home to the Oglala Lakota. Calvin Coolidge, who held the presidency from 1923 to 1929, spent part of the summer of 1927 in the nearby Black Hills, and the card's title ties the performance to that era of official visits. Keystone View Company produced stereo cards like this one for home stereoscopes, so the picture was meant to be seen in three dimensions, placing the viewer close to the dancers.
