Pitcher Joe Bush appears here as a member of Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics, the American League club that was a powerhouse in the early 1910s. The glass negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines. Bush pitched for many years, and the record's dates, 1912 to 1928, show a career that stretched well beyond this 1913 portrait. Bain's glass plates are now valued for their record of ballplayers and sporting life in the period.
