Looking across Grant Park, this view takes in the Auditorium Annex and the Blackstone Hotel, two Michigan Avenue buildings the record dates to between 1900 and 1915. The Annex stood beside the Auditorium Building, Adler and Sullivan's 1889 complex that combined a concert hall, offices and a hotel under one roof. The Blackstone opened in 1910 and gave the lakefront another grand hotel, helping make Michigan Avenue a fashionable address. The Detroit Publishing Company made the picture, and it shows how downtown Chicago pressed right up against the open park along the lake.
