This ink drawing shows the Arlington theater and Arlington Hotel together on Castle Square, a busy corner of Tremont Street in Boston. The building's older name, the Castle Square theater, points to its long history as a stage house before films became its main attraction. In the 1920s, many Boston theaters were being remodeled or rebuilt for motion pictures, and a drawing like this one would have served as a working record of the building's design. It is a useful glimpse of how a single block of downtown Boston combined entertainment and lodging in the decade before the Depression.
