The "New Hotel" at the Weirs, on the narrows of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, is the focus of this view, with the village's name taken from the fish weirs once built there. In the early 1900s the Weirs drew summer vacationers by rail and steamboat, and hotels like this one catered to visitors who came for the lake air and water. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold travel views of American scenery and towns, made large glass-plate negatives like this one to supply its catalog. The date of about 1906 is an estimate based on the company's working years.
