Roberts sketched this Franciscan convent in Nazareth on April 21, 1839, during the tour of the Near East that produced his best-known views of the region. The convent, known as Terra Santa, belonged to the Franciscan friars who maintained the Holy Land's Christian sites, and the building's walls and courtyard give a sense of the religious community that anchored the town.
