Walkerville was a manufacturing town on the Detroit River, across from Detroit, and it grew up around the distillery founded by Hiram Walker. This view of its railroad station, taken between 1905 and 1915, shows a place where rail lines carried goods and passengers between Ontario and the American Midwest. The Detroit Publishing Company made this 8 x 10 inch glass negative, part of a large body of travel and town views the firm produced for sale. Walkerville was absorbed into Windsor in 1935, so the station now stands in a city the photographer would have recognized only as a small industrial town.
