The Michigan Central Railroad station in Ann Arbor is the particular subject here, shown in a glass-plate negative the Detroit Publishing Company made sometime between 1905 and 1915. The company's large-format views of American towns, railroads and streets were often sold as postcards and souvenir prints, so the picture doubles as a record of how a rail depot fit into the street life around it. Michigan Central was one of the major lines linking Detroit and Chicago, and its stations were central to the towns they served. The negative came to the Library of Congress through a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
