Boat Landing at Pollard's Station shows a shoreline spot on Donner Lake, a place whose name recalls the Donner Party, the emigrant group trapped by snow in the Sierra Nevada in 1846 and 1847. The view dates to the mid-1860s, when the Central Pacific Railroad was building eastward through those mountains. Only one half of a stereograph pair survives here, from the Gems of California scenery series, so it was meant to be seen through a stereoscope for a sense of depth. The caption data comes from an old card and has not been fully verified, so details about the station should be checked against other sources.
