In the afternoon, Broadway in Saratoga Springs became a slow parade of carriages and strolling visitors before the Grand Union Hotel, the sprawling resort hotel that drew society guests each summer. This wood engraving, made from a sketch by Harry Ogden, appeared in *Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper* in August 1875. Saratoga's mineral springs and its horse racing made it one of the most fashionable summer destinations in the country, and the magazine's engravings were the main way readers far from the resort could see such scenes. The print shows how the promenade doubled as a place to see and be seen.
