The Buffalo Club was one of the men's social clubs that gave the city's business and professional families a private place to dine, talk and meet. This view is a glass dry-plate negative, an 8 by 10 inch plate that the Detroit Publishing Company made around the turn of the twentieth century, when the firm was documenting American cities and landmarks for sale to travelers and publishers. Buffalo was then a booming lake and canal port and a center of grain, steel and manufacturing, and its club buildings reflected that prosperity. The plate came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
