The record describes this drawing as a view of drawbridges in Tokyo with foreign visitors, a subject tied to the decades after Japan opened its ports in the 1850s, when Edo became Tokyo in 1868 and Western travelers began sketching the city's moats, gates and crossings. The catalog's details do not fully agree, though. The date of 1750 falls before the 1764 to 1788 period given for the artist Isoda Koryūsai, who was known for Edo-period ukiyo-e, and a botanical note also appears. Those conflicts are worth checking against the Library of Congress catalog before drawing firm conclusions about when and by whom the work was made.
