Tom Seaton was a left-handed pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, and this glass negative captures him in the 1913 season, when he was one of the staff's main starters. The image comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the large body of news photographs that Bain News Service sold to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. Bain's photographers worked quickly, and their glass plates were often printed the same day they were made. The baseball title was assigned later by researchers at the Society for American Baseball Research, so the name on the record reflects that later identification rather than a contemporary caption.
