Redlands, California, is seen here from the heights above town, a vantage that the panoramic format stretches across the valley floor. By about 1902, Redlands was a prosperous citrus town in San Bernardino County, and its orange groves and tree-lined streets were a major draw for visitors and new residents. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued thousands of western views around this time, copyrighted the scene as part of its catalog of travel images. The caption card supplies the title and copyright number, but some of the details in this record are unverified, so the exact date and vantage point should be checked against other sources.
