The record identifies the sitter only as Judge W.E. Lamb and dates the plate to March 16, 1922. Both details come from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, so the name is unverified. The company photographed Washington, D.C., public figures and city life in the early twentieth century, and this glass plate belongs to that body of work. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating, a common condition in glass negatives of this age.
