Two Army officers, Col. Sherman Moreland and Lt. Col. Jos. J. McMullen, appear here under their titles as judge advocate and assistant, the military lawyers who handle legal affairs for the service. The glass negative is dated October 28, 1925, and comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that recorded government officials and public events in the 1910s and 1920s. Glass plates like this one captured sharp detail at the time, though the coating on this example has begun to streak and blemish with age. The Library of Congress received it as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947.
