Few visitors to the White House in the mid-1920s had a profile like Louis B. Mayer's. By 1924, when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer was formed, he had become one of Hollywood's most powerful studio executives. This group portrait, dated around 1925 and made by the National Photo Company, shows Mayer with members of his family during a visit to the executive mansion. The company photographed official Washington and its visitors for decades, so the picture records how the capital's most famous house welcomed prominent figures from the new film industry.
