Among the posters promoting the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo, this 1933 sheet is distinguished by its credits, which name W. de Basil as general director and René Blum and André Masson as artistic directors. The company was formed in 1932 by de Basil and Blum, drawing on dancers and choreographers from the circle of Serge Diaghilev, whose death in 1929 had left his troupe's future uncertain. Printed in Paris by Blamon-Kahane as a chromolithograph, the sheet shows how large, boldly colored posters carried ballet into city streets in the early 1930s.
