Northwestern University's swimming team is recorded here on April 9, 1924, on a glass negative rather than a paper print. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that photographed local people, events and institutions in the early twentieth century, made plates like this one in large numbers. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. The title comes from data the company wrote on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. Streaks and blemishes on the glass are typical of deterioration in the original coatings.
