Four surnames, Ascher, Burgess, Swinbourne and Haas, identify this glass negative as a relay team from Georgetown University, according to the title the National Photo Company wrote on its sleeve. That title is unverified, and the c. 1926 date is inferred from other negatives in the same range, so the names and the event should be treated as provisional. The National Photo Company documented Washington, D.C., including its streets, government buildings and sporting life, in the early twentieth century. Streaks and blemishes on the plate come from deterioration of the original coating, not from the photographer's choices.
