Three glass negatives stitched together make this a wide view of Glacier House, the Canadian Pacific Railway's mountain hotel in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia. The railway opened the hotel in 1886 to serve travelers crossing Rogers Pass, and its location near the Illecillewaet Glacier made it a base for early mountain tourism and climbing. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American and Canadian scenery to tourists, produced the panorama in the years before 1915. Its wide format shows how the hotel sat within the steep peaks and forests of the range.
