A wheeled wagon fitted with a mast and canvas is the subject of this Brooklyn glass negative, which the record labels a sail wagon. Land-sailing carts of this kind drew attention in the early 1900s, when enthusiasts rigged sails to simple running gear and tried them on flat roads and open stretches of sand. The Bain News Service, a commercial photo agency active in New York from about 1900 into the 1920s, made many such pictures for newspapers. Its title and caption data are unverified, so the exact date and occasion remain uncertain, but the glass plate preserves fine detail of the rig.
