Officers stand guard over Brooklyn's streets during a car strike, when transit workers walked off the job and police were posted to keep order around the trolleys and the crowds that gathered near them. The record carries no date, and the title comes from caption data that Bain News Service supplied and that has not been independently verified, so the exact strike and location remain uncertain. The picture belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs that the Bain News Service, a New York agency, produced and distributed in the early twentieth century. Its glass negatives give a useful record of how urban labor disputes looked on the street.
