From a vantage point on Mount Arabella, this view takes in Whitefish Bay and McGregor's Bay on Georgian Bay, the large arm of Lake Huron that reaches into central Ontario. The Detroit Publishing Company made the 8 by 10 inch glass negative between 1900 and 1906, when it was building a large catalog of scenic views for sale to travelers and armchair tourists. Such pictures were prized for showing lakeshores and resort country that many buyers would never visit in person. The bay's rocky shoreline and open water make it a good example of the lake scenery that drew summer visitors to the region at the time.
