Inside Hotel El Tovar on the South Rim, this view shows a room called The Rendezvous, and its catalog tags point to hunting and interior furnishings as its themes. The Fred Harvey Company completed the hotel in 1905 to serve visitors to the canyon, and its timber-and-stone design was meant to blend with the rugged setting. The Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American scenery to travelers and railroads, made the photograph around 1905, so it records the hotel in its first years.
