President William Howard Taft is the subject of this view of a game between Washington and Chicago, which researchers at the Society for American Baseball Research date to August 13, 1912. Taft was a well-known baseball fan who often attended Washington Senators games, and his presence at the ballpark drew attention from crowds and the press. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photo agency whose glass negatives document much of the period's public life, though the title details were recorded by the agency and have not been independently verified.
