Phillip "Wiley" Taylor appears here in his Chicago American League uniform, one of the portraits the Bain News Service made of ballplayers in the early 1910s. The Bain agency, a New York company, sold news photographs to newspapers, and its glass negatives were often captioned for quick use in print. The 1912 date and the full name are not from the original caption alone; they rest on research by the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee in 2006, which is worth remembering when using the record for dating.
