Its title, Jamàs, which means "never" in Spanish, states a refusal before any detail is read. The lithograph brings together military figures and a monster, a common wartime device that cast the enemy as something less than human to rally support at home. Printed in color sometime between 1936 and 1939, while the Spanish Republic and the Nationalist forces led by Francisco Franco fought for control of the country, it belongs to a large body of Civil War posters that show how both sides made their appeals to the public.
