The Mecca Double Folders, cataloged as T201, were issued in 1911 by the American Tobacco Company and packed with its cigarettes. Each card folded in two, so a collector could open it to show a pair of players, which gave the set its name. Tobacco companies of this era used cards like these to promote their brands and to reward buyers with collectible images, and the color lithographic work reflects how much effort went into making them appealing. This example comes from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, a group of early baseball cards held by the Library of Congress.
