Taken from near the bridge at the Grand View Hotel, this 1906 print shows a spot on the South Rim where visitors could look straight out over the canyon. The hotel, built on the rim in the late 1890s, was one of the first places to stay for travelers who came by stagecoach before the railroad reached the edge in 1901. The record gives the location as Colorado, but the Grand Canyon lies in Arizona. Views like this one helped establish the canyon as a major tourist destination.
