The Temple of Kalabsha, shown here in Nubia, was one of the largest Egyptian-style temples in the region, built in the Roman period and dedicated to the local sun god Mandulis. David Roberts sketched it on his tour of Egypt and Nubia in 1838 and 1839, and Louis Haghe turned those drawings into this color lithograph. It appeared in the second volume of *Egypt & Nubia*, issued in parts by F. G. Moon between 1846 and 1849. The temple was later moved stone by stone to higher ground when the Aswan High Dam flooded the original site in the 1960s.
