Roberts drew this sandstone temple at Dabod, a small site in Nubia on the Nile south of Egypt's main monuments, during his travels in the late 1830s. Its origins go back to the Ptolemaic period, with later additions under the Romans, and by the time Roberts reached it the building stood among the less visited ruins of the region. This color lithograph appeared in the second volume of *Egypt & Nubia*, issued in parts between 1846 and 1849, and Louis Haghe turned Roberts's sketches into the finished stone plates. The series helped shape European images of the Nile valley for a wide public.
