The colossal figure in this color lithograph stands before the rock-cut temple at Wadi es-Sebua, a site in Lower Nubia that the record spells "Saboua." David Roberts sketched it during his travels in Egypt and Nubia in 1838 and 1839, and Louis Haghe turned those drawings into lithographs for *Egypt & Nubia*, issued in parts by F.G. Moon in London between 1846 and 1849. The plate shows how the statues and temple were cut directly into the cliff face, and it gives a sense of the scale that drew European travelers to these monuments.
