Burnet Woods, a Cincinnati park on the city's north side, is the subject here, and this view centers on a bend in one of its roads rather than a lawn or building. The glass dry plate negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its large catalog of American scenes taken roughly between 1890 and 1920, when its photographers were documenting parks, towns and rail destinations for tourism and sale. Images like this one show how carefully designed park drives were laid out to lead visitors past trees and open ground, a common idea in the era's urban park movement. The record dates the plate to between 1900 and 1915.
