This is an architectural drawing, rendered in ink on paper, for a motion picture house that William Fox planned at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Clifford Street in Detroit. The sheet is dated 1926, a time when Fox's film company was expanding its chain of theaters and Detroit was one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, with downtown and midtown moviegoing booming. Drawings like this one record the building's plans and construction details before any walls went up, so they show how a 1920s picture palace was laid out on paper. Because the record is brief, the drawing's exact design features are best seen by examining the sheet itself.
