Unlike the board's posters and photographs, this ink drawing shows the Shubert Michigan theater as an architect's plan, set on Michigan Avenue across from Washington Boulevard in Detroit and dated 1923. Drawings like this one fixed a building's layout and elevations before construction began. The Shubert name tied the house to a New York firm that ran playhouses in several American cities, and the subject headings point to its use for motion pictures as well as stage shows, a mix that grew common in the 1920s as film became the leading form of popular entertainment.
