Rather than a photograph or poster, this 1926 ink drawing is a working document that shows two Boston houses on one sheet: the Columbia theater at Washington and Castle streets and the Fenway theater at Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street. The mid-1920s saw a boom in movie theaters, which were increasingly built as ornate public rooms rather than plain halls, so drawings like this one recorded how such buildings were planned. Held by the Library of Congress, it offers a useful view of how Boston's entertainment districts were taking shape.
