Roosevelt is shown at the podium during his address at the 1906 dedication of the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg, a ceremony held on October 4 for the new building that replaced the earlier capitol lost to fire in 1897. The Keystone View Company of Meadville issued this stereograph, and cards like it were sold widely to people who viewed the pair of nearly identical images through a stereoscope to see a three-dimensional scene. Stereographs of presidential appearances were a popular way for ordinary households to see public events in the early 1900s.
