Roosevelt is shown leaving the Capitol to lead the procession after his second inauguration, on March 4, 1905. He had first taken office in 1901 after William McKinley was assassinated, and this ceremony marked his own full term after winning the 1904 election. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm, produced this stereograph card around 1905. Stereographs like this were sold for viewing through a special holder, which gave a three-dimensional effect and let ordinary households see distant public events.
