Roosevelt is shown as the inaugural procession moves along Pennsylvania Avenue at 10th Street, on the route toward the Capitol. The picture records the March 4, 1905, ceremony that gave Roosevelt a full term, after he had taken office in 1901 following William McKinley's assassination. Pennsylvania Avenue was the traditional path for these processions, so the scene reflects a custom that changed little over the decades. The print comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio whose street views of the period document the city's public life.
