Young's Million Dollar Pier was an entertainment pavilion built out over the Atlantic at Atlantic City, New Jersey, a resort that drew vacationers by rail in the early 1900s. This view was made from two 8 by 10 inch glass negatives meant to be read side by side, so the pier and its boardwalk setting stretch across both plates. The Detroit Publishing Company produced many such views of American towns and attractions for travelers and collectors. Its panoramic format shows how the resort's buildings and promenade were arranged along the shore.
