This 1936 silkscreen poster advertises a sculpture exhibition in New York City, and it was sponsored by the Federal Art Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, the New Deal agency that employed artists and other workers during the Depression. The Federal Art Project's New York silkscreen workshop helped turn the process into an affordable way to make bold, flat-color posters for exhibitions and public notices. The date stamp on the back, March 24, 1941, shows the sheet was filed and kept after its original run.
