Five glass negatives make up this view of Syracuse, New York, which the record describes as a sequence to be read from left to right, so the set works as a panorama rather than a single scene. The images were made sometime between 1900 and 1915, when Syracuse was a busy manufacturing and rail center in central New York. The large 8 by 10 inch format gave the photographer fine detail, and the set belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company collection, a firm known for its wide-ranging views of American towns and landscapes in those years.
