Diana's Baths is a set of hot pools among the travertine terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs, where mineral-rich water rising through limestone slowly builds up white, stepped formations. This card, number 101 in a series, dates to 1876, just four years after Congress set aside Yellowstone as the first national park, when much of the country had never seen the region. Stereo cards like this were meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which gave the terraces a sense of depth a flat print could not. A variant view of the same subject is catalogued separately, suggesting the publisher offered more than one picture of the site.
