Cairo's coppersmiths' bazaar is the subject of this plate from David Roberts's *Egypt & Nubia*, which records a trade that had worked in the city's markets for centuries. Roberts, a Scottish painter, traveled through Egypt and Nubia in 1838 and 1839 and sketched on the spot. Louis Haghe turned those drawings into color lithographs, and F.G. Moon published them in London between 1846 and 1849. This example appears in the third volume, and it is worth noticing for the way it captures ordinary working life in a Cairo market during that period.
