The close-up of the statue's head is the detail that sets this view apart from the many full-length shots of Liberty on the same board. Lady Liberty was a gift from the people of France to the United States, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with the internal iron framework engineered by Gustave Eiffel's firm. Dedicated on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in 1886, the statue's crown has seven rays and its face and crown can be studied up close, which is why a view like this one draws attention to the sculptural detail that most visitors only see from a distance.
