Seelisberg, a village on a terrace above the western shore of Lake Lucerne, looks out here across the water toward the craggy bulk of Mount Pilatus. The print comes from the photochrom process, a Swiss method that transferred a photograph onto several lithographic stones, one for each color, and then had them hand-retouched before printing. Detroit Publishing Company issued this view in its 1905 catalog of Swiss scenes, though the photograph itself dates from the 1890s, when lake steamers were carrying growing numbers of tourists to the region.
