Thun sits at the northwestern end of its lake, where the water narrows toward the Bernese Oberland and snowy peaks rise beyond. This print is one of a numbered series of Swiss views made with photochrom, a Zurich process that built color from several hand-prepared stone lithographs. Such views were popular with travelers in the 1890s, who bought them as souvenirs of the Alps. Notice how the soft greens of the hillsides and the blue water show the layered inking.
